International Volunteer Day (IVD)(December 5) is an international observance designated by the United Nations sincs 1985, it offers an opportunity for volunteer, organization and individual volunteers to make visible their contributions- at local, national and international level- to the achievement of the millennium- develoment goals.
The International Volunteer Day is marked by many non governmental organizations including Nigeria Network of Non Governmental Organizations,Red Cross and others, it is marked and supported by United Nations Volunteer every year,The United Nations Volunteer works closely with partners and Governments to establish national volunteer programs to creat structures that foster and sustain local volunteerism in countries, through the online volunteering service, volunteering can take action for sustainable human development by supporting the activities of development organization over the internet, the man focus of IVD 2016 is not only to celebrate volunteerism in all its facets- but also pay special tribute to people's participation that leads to stronger governance, social cohesion,peace and sustainable development. International volunteer day is a unique opportunity for people and volunteer involving organizations to work with Government agencies, non-profit institutions, community group, academia and the private sector. volunteers with local and international community we serve are invited in order for them to benefit from one skills and perspective volunteers bring with them.
